Kayan Lahwi

Kayan lahwi is a tribe of Kayan living in the south Shan State. Among four tribes of Kayan, Kayan Lahwi has the biggest population, compose of estimate 70,000.

There are many sub-tribes of Kayan Lahwi, they are
Whari,
Sunaya,
Pekin(pekan),
Lamou(Tena),
Tarou(salong),
Blablo,
Kamai,
Hanbu,
Han ao,
Lanu(latain) etc..
These people speak kayan but different Kayan accent. Aside from their old villages, they settle in other places.

             Whari are found in Demoso, Nanmekon, Moebye. Whari Kawku and Whari Suply are another villages of Whari tribe.
Sunaya tribe are found in Mobye and demoso. Pekin tribe are found in Mobye and Pekin Kawkhu is another village of Pekin. Lamou tribe are found in Mobye and Tarou are found at Kongta. Blablo pho are settling in Loikaw, Nanataw, 6mile, Kaungmai Phekon, and Semilou village at the east of Phekon Dam. Kamai is one of the smallest tribe but they are living everywhere with one family or two families separately.
 Hanbu are settling in Loikaw and Phekon. Most of Han Ao and Lanu(Latain) are just living in their villages and they do not move and settle in the other place. Most of Kayan Lahwi are Roman Catholic. Some of Kayan Buddhist are found at Han Ao and Latain. There are many more sub-tribes of kayan Lahwi at the area of Relon Rekan, but due to lack of information, we were not able describe about them yet. The information will be updated more.
