Archbishop Mattias Shwe
Archbishop Matthias U Shwe was born Dec. 10, 1943, in Kamai, Pekhon diocese, created from Taunggyi archdiocese in December 2005. He joined the seminary in 1957, was ordained a priest in 1969 and served as assistant parish priest of Han O until 1970. Then he served as an assistant parish priest of Pekhon parish until early 1972, when he was appointed spiritual director of St. Joseph's Catholic Major Seminary in Yangon. 

He became the rector of the Catholic Major Seminary in 1976, and remained there until he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Taunggyi on Dec. 20, 1979. He was ordained bishop on Dec. 13, 1980. On Dec. 18, 1989, he was appointed Bishop of Taunggyi diocese, and when it became an archdiocese in January 1998, he was made an archbishop (Jan. 17).


Bishop Basilio Athai
Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar General: Bishop Basilio Athai was born in Kyekado, Taungngu diocese, south of Taunggyi, on July 22, 1956. He studied in No. 3 State School Loikaw from 1963 to 1974. Then he joined the seminary in 1975. He was ordained a priest on April 1, 1984, by Bishop Mathias U Shwe. He served as an assistant parish priest of Hwarikhu (now in Pekhon diocese) from 1984-86 and at the cathedral in Taunggyi from 1986-88. 

He was appointed professor of philosophy at the Catholic Major Seminary in Pyin-Oo-Lwin in 1988 and served there until 1992. Later he did higher studies in Rome from 1992 to 1995. On his return, he was appointed parish priest of Nanattaw in Loikaw diocese and he served there from 1996 to 2005. Since 2005, he has been rector of St. Michael's Major Seminary in Taunggyi until 2008. He was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Taunggyi on Nov. 18, 2008.



Bishop Peter Hla


Bishop Peter Hla was born on Jan. 15, 1952, in Hwari Khu, Pekhon Township. He was ordained a priest on March 18, 1981. His episcopal ordination was on Dec. 15, 2001. He was elected Bishop of Pekhon on Dec. 15, 2005, and appointed auxiliary bishop of Taunggyi. His installation as Bishop of Pekhon took place on April 1, 2006.
